The University of La Rioja is a public institution of higher education, research and innovation, and the dissemination and creation of knowledge, located in Logroño, La Rioja, Spain. It was created in the academic year 1992-1993, by the Law of Creation (Ley 17/1992, 15th of June). The University of La Rioja is a modern campus with a specific profile, with its roots in the study of Castilian Spanish Language and the world of wine-making, whilst also looking towards the future and supporting the use of new technologies.


The centre has been a pioneer in the creation, on a national level, of new degree courses such as Oenology, or the teaching of courses via the internet, as is the case of the Degree in Employment and Historic Sciences and Music Science. During this time, the University of La Rioja has trained 20.000 professionals. It has earned the Campus International Excellence for the project Iberus presented together with the public universities of Zaragoza, Navarra and Lleida. The University of La Rioja currently teaches 4.598 students enrolled in one of its 26 officially recognized degree courses and postgraduate courses and programs for master's degrees and doctorates adapted to the European Higher Education in the following areas: Arts and Humanities; Business and Social Sciences; Language and Cultural Studies; Medicine and Health; Engineering; Science and Technology.


The University of La Rioja is member of the Vine and Wine research institute (ICVV), located in La Rioja, together with the La Rioja Government and the CSIC (The Center of Spanish Scientific Research).


Students enjoy a personalized learning system that has integrated new technologies with small groups and a personal tutor to guide them during their career, training in languages, computer, communication and management skills, the ability of internships in companies and a cosmopolitan atmosphere that enables hundreds of visits to campuses in Europe, America, Asia and Australia. The University of La Rioja is organized into four faculties, a Technical School of Higher Education and three accredited institutions, which Departments depend on. The University of La Rioja is composed of about 318 members of teaching and research staff belonging to 62 research groups and 250 other members of the Administration and Services.


UR takes part on more than 25 European Projects since FP6 and is currently coordinating one from the FP7 and another from TEMPUS Programme, both of them with a total budget of 3.000.000 €. We also have two project of MSCA, one of them an IEF is on-going since March 2015 and the other one and ITN is going to start on November 2015.
